Overland Contracting Inc Selected to Install Natural Gas-fired Boilers at Celanese Plant

Clean energy technology helps plant meet new federal air emissions guidelines

NARROWS, VA. (29 April 2013) – Overland Contracting Inc. (OCI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Black & Veatch, announced today it has been selected by Celanese Corporation to replace its coal-fired boilers with natural gas-fired boilers at the company’s plant in Narrows, Va.

OCI is providing engineering, procurement and construction services for the project as part of the contract. The project will make the plant, which manufactures cellulose acetate, meet new EPA emissions standards and is scheduled for completion in early 2015.

“This project will allow Celanese to improve its plant operations while using clean-burning, efficient natural gas as an energy source,” said Mark Prenni, Managing Director, Overland Contracting Inc. “OCI was selected based on our significant experience managing client needs and ability to deliver results on complex industrial projects like this one.”

OCI expects to make job opportunities available to qualified local applicants and vendors who possess the skill sets and offerings required for specific industrial construction jobs. By June 1, 2013, OCI will set up three job information sites in the region and an OCI website that will allow local applicants and vendors to explore potential work opportunities. The sites will be located at the following job services offices: Narrows, VA; Radford, VA; and the Giles County Commissioner’s Office in Pearisburg, VA.

“OCI has a long record of enhancing the quality of life where it provides services,” said Prenni. “We look forward to opening the doors of opportunity to interested and qualified candidates from the county and surrounding region in the near future.”
