Two New Appointments Strengthen Black & Veatch's Asia-Pacific Water Business

Singapore (June 06, 2008) – Black & Veatch, a leading global engineering, consulting and construction company, has announced the appointment of two senior managers to its Asia-Pacific water business. Dr. Brace Boyden and Ryan Yao will take up Technical Specialist and Project Director posts in Sydney, Australia, and Beijing, PR China, respectively.

“These appointments demonstrate our continued investment in these important water markets in order to expand the number of professionals we have with extensive expertise in finding sustainable solutions for our clients,” said Dan McCarthy, President and CEO of Black & Veatch’s global water business.

Dr. Boyden has more than 20 years of experience in project and design management of water and wastewater process systems. Prior to joining Black & Veatch, Dr. Boyden had a senior project management role with a major engineering, sciences and project delivery firm in Australia.

Dr. Boyden is a graduate of the University of Arkansas in the United States, where he received two bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and chemical engineering. He also obtained his master’s degree in chemical engineering and his Ph. D. in engineering from the same university. He is a member of a number of prestigious institutions, including the Institution of Engineers, Australia; Australian Water Association; International Water Association; Water Environment Federation; and American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He has worked extensively in the Asia-Pacific region during his career.

Ryan Yao has 18 years of experience in business development for water sector engineering projects and is specialized in providing institutional development advice to municipalities throughout PR China. Prior to joining Black & Veatch, Yao was Project Director and Institutional Specialist with an international consulting engineering company.

Yao is a graduate of the Beijing Foreign Language University, where he received a bachelor’s degree in economics, and of the University of Capoliano in Canada, where he gained a master’s degree in environmental management. He is a guest professor at the Harbin Institute of Technology and a Member of the Environmental Branch of the Chinese Association of Sustainable Development.

“With both water and wastewater experience, Brace brings excellent process expertise to the region and a unique knowledge of working in the countries that make up our regional water business,” said Ralph Eberts, Senior Managing Director of Black & Veatch’s water business in Asia Pacific. “Ryan has significant experience working on development agency-funded projects in China, so the relationships he has developed with municipalities over the years will serve us – and our clients – well as we continue to grow our water business in China.”

Yao will be located in Beijing and coordinate Black & Veatch’s global water business in Shanghai. “This senior water business appointment bolsters Black & Veatch’s growing presence in China in the fields of water and energy,” McCarthy said.

Additionally, Black & Veatch’s energy business serves clients in China and throughout Asia Pacific from offices in Beijing and Bangkok, Thailand.
