FLNG facility from converted carrier features PRICO® liquefaction technology

- Project Name
- Golar Gimi FLNG
- Location
- Maritime border of Mauritania and Senegal
- Client
- Golar LNG
Golar LNG selected Black & Veatch to provide engineering, procurement and construction support (EPC) services for the Golar Gimi FLNG (floating liquefied natural gas) processing and storage facility. Converted from a Moss LNG carrier, with FLNG capability constructed by Seatrium Limited (formerly Keppel Shipyard Limited), the facility is designed to provide 2.7 million metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG. It achieved first LNG production in 2025.
The facility’s liquefaction trains use Black & Veatch’s PRICO® technology. Scalable with a small footprint and requiring minimal equipment, PRICO’s single mixed-refrigerant liquefaction process supports safe, rapid, cost-effective delivery of LNG to market, enabling innovative and optimal modularization of onshore, offshore and nearshore applications. It is the most-used liquefaction technology in the floating LNG industry.
Black & Veatch has provided engineering support and technology improvements to Golar LNG for more than a decade. The Golar Gimi project doubles the company’s FLNG operating fleet, with the Golar Hilli operating off the coast of Cameroon since 2018. Next for the fleet is the Golar MK II FLNG project, which was awarded to Black & Veatch in 2024.
Project Features
Facility: Topside gas pre-treatment and dehydration, 4 PRICO liquefaction trains, LNG offloading, heavy hydrocarbon fractionation, boil-off gas recovery, fuel gas, flare systems. The facility includes gas extraction plus well-stream gas preconditioning to pipeline-quality feedstock prior to delivery to the FLNG facility.
Delivery: EPC work began in 2018 and adapted to the COVID pandemic by operating on a 24-hour cycle, using Black & Veatch’s global offices. In 2023, the facility left the Seatrium shipyard in Singapore and arrived in 2024 at its station, the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim gas field hub. LNG production started in 2025.
Black & Veatch Services: FEED and topside detail engineering; procurement of all topside equipment; construction engineering; commissioning consulting.
