Project Name
Lundin Eagle | Brine Removal For Closure
Location
Upper Peninsula of Michigan, USA
Client
Eagle Mine

Black & Veatch designed an enhanced water treatment system to reduce and ultimately eliminate the layer of reverse osmosis brine at depth in the Humboldt Tailings Disposal Facility. Eagle Mine is an underground mine producing nickel and copper concentrates located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Brine from the existing tailings disposal facility must be treated as part of the closure requirements. Black & Veatch designed and supported construction of a 100-gallon-per-minute zero liquid discharge facility with the goal of treating tailings brine for discharge to the environment or returning water back to the facility.
