Project

Golden Hills HV

In 2022, Black & Veatch and its subcontractors completed the Golden Hills HV project, located in Sherman County, Oregon, which consisted of designing and constructing the Golden Hills substation and associated interconnect with an existing 230kV line. The substation serves as a collector station for 51 wind turbines with available power generation of 201.3 MW. The transmission line consisted of 4.4 miles of new 230kV transmission line with 35 new steel structures, interconnecting with the existing 230kV BPA line structure.

BVCI, a wholly owned subsidiary of Black & Veatch delivered this project on budget and worked through numerous schedule challenges to enable Avangrid Renewables to interconnect their wind farm project.

This was Black & Veatch’s first EPC project for Avangrid Renewables, one of the largest U.S. developers of renewable energy, with more than 7,000 MW of wind and solar projects completed and in operation. This project adds to that portfolio another clean energy project that will deliver renewable energy to customers in the Northwest for the decades to come.

Project

Block Island Wind

Black & Veatch provided engineering design and conceptual exploration services for the Block Island Transmission System and Block Island Wind Farm Project. The projects included a new 35 kV armored submarine power cable, approximately 22 miles, to serve as the electrical connection between five wind turbines off the coast of Block Island and the mainland Rhode Island.
