Supplier diversity efforts help earn Black & Veatch honor as Kansas Corporation of the Year

The Kansas Department of Commerce (KDOC) has selected Black & Veatch as Kansas Corporation of the Year for its leadership and the opportunities its supplier diversity program provides for minority- and women-owned businesses.

“Black & Veatch is a good example of the type of first-class businesses that we have in the state of Kansas,” said Kansas Commerce Secretary Antonio Soave. “The Corporation of the Year award is the perfect way to recognize the innovative programs, like the supplier diversity program, and the dedication to quality service through Black & Veatch’s work in critical human infrastructure.”

In the past two years, Black & Veatch has procured products and services or contracted with more than 100 diverse businesses in the United States. Suppliers interested in being part of the program are able to register for consideration on the company’s website.

The company participates in Matchmaker events where potential suppliers present their capabilities to project teams. Black & Veatch works closely with its clients’ supplier diversity staffs to include diverse suppliers in the project bid process. The company is also active in various organizations such as the National Minority Supplier Development Council, Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, and the Kansas City Chamber’s Diversity to promote building supplier diversity.

“We value our diverse suppliers and subcontractors who enhance our capabilities to support clients’ projects and diversity goals. The collective perspective of multiple backgrounds and cultures in the supply chain enriches project execution, and it gives us a strong competitive advantage.”

John Murphy, President of Construction & Procurement at Black & Veatch.

Black & Veatch will receive its award during the KDOC’s Office of Minority and Women Business Development’s 32nd Annual Minority and Women Business Awards Luncheon on Oct. 11 in Topeka, Kansas.

Editor’s Notes:

  • Black & Veatch’s supplier diversity program is implemented across its power, oil & gas, water, telecommunications, government services and management consulting business lines.
  • The company launched its suppler diversity program in 2005.
