Black & Veatch has provided services at the Omaha Lead Site for EPA Region 7 since 1999 under both the EPA Response Action Contract (RAC) and the Architect-Engineer Services (AES) Contract. The work has been performed under 10 separate task orders. The Omaha Lead Site includes surface soils present at residential properties, child care facilities, schools, and other residential-type properties in Eastern Omaha.
The total area of the Omaha Lead Site is approximately 8,840 acres, where an estimated 66,000 residents are located. Contamination at the site resulted from smelting and refining of lead bullion and dross from the 1870s to 1997 that caused air dispersion of lead, arsenic, and zinc to properties within the site. To date, Black & Veatch has sampled approximately 39,491 properties and had performed LBP assessments at 8,358 properties at the site.
