Freeport McMoRan Manyar Smelter

Black & Veatch is a world leader in seawater desalination having designed and built some of the world’s largest mining desalination plants.  Black & Veatch used this expertise to engineer, procure and construct a state-of-the-art desalination facility in a remote geography. Through its subsidiary, PT-FI, FCX mines one of the world’s largest copper and gold deposits in the Grasberg minerals district in Papua, Indonesia. In addition to copper and gold, PT-FI produces silver. Black & Veatch provided an EPC delivery model for a 400 liters per second (9.1 MGD) seawater desalination facility from front-end engineering design (FEED) to full commissioning at the nearby Manyar Smelter location. The Black & Veatch project site has had 6 million+ safe hours without a lost time incident.
