Shoaibah to Jeddah Water Transfer Project Fulfills Critical Need to Improve Water Supply
- Project Name
- Shoaibah to Jeddah Water Transmission System
- Location
- Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
- Client
- Saline Water Conversion Corporation, Saudi Arabia
The Saline Water Conversion Corporation selected Black & Veatch to carry out engineering design, preparation of tender documents, design review and construction supervision.
The purpose of the project is to transfer 120 mega litres per day of treated water from Shoaibah to Jeddah, Mina and Quaiza as well as from Makkah to Taif.
The Shoaibah-Jeddah water transmission system comprises a new pumping station at Shoaibah and twin steel pipeline to water tank complex in Jeddah. In addition, pumping capacity at Shoaibah has been doubled, three pumping stations between Makkah and Taif have been uprated, and two new booster pumping stations have been provided to support the transmission network.
Treated water is conveyed through a 1524 millimetre diameter welded steel pipeline spanning approximately 30 kilometres through urban development in Jeddah and 92 kilometres in desert.
Through improved access to treated water, the project has helped benefit the lives of those living in the Kingdom’s arid regions.
